Halloween

See this sucker? It was at least the 10th piece of candy
eaten by this little princess before even getting home from trick or treating!

This tootsie roll is scrumptious!

Of course, our tomboy daughter, Joanna, requested an Ironman costume!

Jaclyn, true to character, chose a Cinderella costume. She loves wearing dresses every day of the year, so why should Halloween be any different?!

And Jayden dressed up as a grizzly bear.
Or, as my brother Derek suggested, a grizzly bear dressed up as a Jayden. Well, he has definitely hit his terrible twos, so there ya go!
Jayden even walked around all night growling like a bear! It was so cute in his little boy voice.

We explored the pumpkin patch this year with the girls' preschool and some good friends.

"I choose this one!"

September celebrations

I recall a day when I was about 16, I made a comment to my mom, "Mom, between holidays and birthdays, our family has something fun to celebrate in every single month of the year except for September. September is such a boring month."

Fast forward
about 8 years
to 2003......

Josh and I got engaged in August of that year, had an insanely/stupidly short engagement of 6 weeks, and got married on September 12th.

....and then I remembered my comment to my mom about nothing cool ever happening in September. And I thought to myself, hey! Now there's something to celebrate every month of the year!! Little did I know that our September nuptials were only the beginning of September celebrations for our family.

Fast forward 2 more years....Joanna was born on 9.10.05.

......then 3 years later, Jayden joined the fam on 9.1.08.

And in a matter of 5 years, our little family now has three good reasons to celebrate in the month of September. And eat tons of cake. ;-)

Jayden's 2nd birthday

Funny story about this dinosaur cake. My parents were in town for a couple days in-between the two birthdays, so we celebrated with them the last night they were in town. (which meant that we had even more birthday cake that week!!)

When it was time for Jayden and Joanna to blow out the candles, we told Joanna to make a wish. I wasn't sure if she'd know what that meant, but apparently she did because she proceeded to close her eyes, and whisper in a nearly inaudible voice, "I wish for twinkle toes shoes!!"

Josh and I chuckled to ourselves because she'd been asking for these shoes all summer long.

Twinkle toe shoes

Looks like her rich fairy godmother granted her wish this year. She was SO thrilled so I guess it was worth the steep price tag. (have you price checked Sketchers twinkle toes lately?! Talk about highway robbery. At least I had a coupon.) :-D

And for those of us who grew up in the 80's and remember the hideous fashions like those of Punky Brewster, you'll look at Twinkle toe shoes and want to barf all over them. At least they're on her feet; not mine. ;-)

It's Potty Training Time Again

It seems like forever since I've had to think about the whole business of potty training. Life sure gets a little easier when two of your three kids can do their business without interfering with all of my busy-ness all day.
Lately Jayden has started to tell us when he needs a diaper change. He'll find me and say, "Mommy, I kinky." Oh really, son? (he means stinky!)

One day I came into the bathroom and found Jayden chillin' on his new potty chair with some light reading material. He'd taken his diaper off himself and grabbed the most suitable book on the subject at hand, and proceeded to do his business!!!

a little taste of summer

Let's see how vague I can be on the details. We did lots of fun stuff. This, that, and the other thing. We've sure had a fantastic summer doing everything we've done! ;-P

The most exciting part of our family's summer has been my nephew's baptism. Isaiah turned eight years old in June, and in order to get as much family at his baptism, it was held over the 4th of July weekend. That's my bro-in-law, Jesse, a.k.a. Bishop Carlson.

Isaiah on his baptism day.
This little guy was born while I was on my mission and now he's baptized?! Did I blink?

C.L.A.S.S.I.C. picture of my husband. 'nuf said.
(cousins Isaiah and Josiah reading a book on the couch, Joanna sucking her thumb, Jayden on the floor looking at a book about Cars. <----c.l.a.s.s.i.c. Jayden shot, too, I might add. He loves anything CARS!)

While Josh and the kids went to Isaiah's baptism in western WA, I went on a week-long road trip with my kid bro, Derek, back to our mother land. The place where we grew up. North Dakota. Or if you're from ND, it's pronounced, Norda Kota. Ya, sure, you betcha. ;-)

Derek was a headin' back for his 10 yr. class reunion, and I had made plans months in advance to visit a bunch of my old friends from childhood/young adulthood. In Dickinson, the real homecoming weekend is always 4th of July weekend. That's when all the class reunions are held, and TONS of people return to see old friends. The place was hoppin'!! There it's called "Roughrider Weekend" to commemorate Teddy Roosevelt and the Roughriders.
But anyway.....

I dropped the kids off at my mom's on July 2nd, and then Derek and I began our long haul across WA, ID, and the ridiculously wide state of MT. Derek and I had so much fun traveling together!

The house above is my childhood home in Dickinson, ND. My fam lived in the same town in the same house for 15 years. In my opinion the people living there now have let the yard go to crap. It used to look tons better when we lived there. My mom always had lush, colorful flower beds and no ugly, unkept bushes below the deck.

Derek and I drove there. 15 hours. Long, yes. But I gotta say, it didn't feel nearly as long as that same drive felt 3 years ago when Josh and I did it with two kids.

Derek kept the car that whole weekend to get himself around to all of his reunion events. I think I got the sweeter deal, though, because this bright orange truck was MY ride for the weekend!! My friend, Michele, bought this beauty for her 16 year old brother and she let me drive it around while I was in town!! What do you think?? It suits me a lot better than a minivan, eh?

(don't ask me what its make and model are because I'm a dumb woman like that. I don't pay attention to that kind of stuff. I can tell you it was orange and that it had 4 wheels!)

This is LowLow. And rightfully named, I might add. Just to give you some perspective, Michele is 5'2". Notice how much taller she is than the truck??
The washed out pic doesn't do this truck justice. It's paint detail is actually BRIGHT, shimmery orange. In the sunlight, Lowlow glistens like Edward in the meadow. hahahahaha

Michele, Lylie, me, Nichole

*I just realized that these pics are completely out of order. But you know what? I don't care!!*

Sooooo, we kicked off the summer with an awesome trip to a water park with Joanna's preschool class. If you haven't been to Surf n Slide in Moses Lake yet, you gotta gettcher tails there today! It's perfect for the little ankle biters. Tons of kiddie slides, fountains, pools, and playground toys.
The day was gorgeous. We couldn't have ordered a more beautifuler day. ;-)

As a family, we have consumed an exorbitant amount of Popsicles this summer. Mostly because it's summer! And it's hot! But for whatever reason I've been craving them like a madwoman. And, well, since I do the grocery shopping, guess what momma comes home with every week.

Now to bid you adieu, here's some sassy, colorful tongues sticking out at you.

Kiddy Carnival

Back in June we took the kiddos to a Saturday morning kiddy carnival. They saw all kinds of baby farm animals--baby goats, pigs, bunnies, etc. Petting was allowed...as long as you kept it G-rated. hahahahahaha

They also got to ride ponies which, of course, my little horse fanatic LOVED and couldn't get enough of. Joanna would have ridden that pony all day if we'd let her.

Jaclyn adored this little puppy.

you can tell where Jayden gets his good looks from.

They also had a carriage ride for us to ride. Joanna took this pic.

My Mother's Day

Mother's Day was fun for me this year! Since 2 of the 3 kiddos were still getting over colds and primary/nursery was out of the question, we played hooky from church. At first Josh told me I should go to church by myself and he'd stay home with the kids, but what mother wants to be apart from her kids on Mother's Day?! Any other day of the year, sure. hehehehe

So Josh asked what I wanted to do and I said that I wanted to be outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. There are trillions of gorgeous places to hike in our area. You just have to find hiking trails that are kid friendly! We chose to go out to Teanaway Ridge or River or something like that.

That's my bro-in-law, Nate, with Jayden.

These pics turned out overexposed, but I think it still captures the natural beauty
of this little corner of the planet!

What is it about the sound of water as it flows down a river, spilling over rocks and down a mountain side? It is so calming. The kids enjoyed climbing around on those boulders and throwing stones into the running water.

A little piece of heaven.

The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves too, which made Mother's Day even better! We snacked on the trail and ate a PB&J dinner at a picnic table after the hike.

Jayden: I saw a pillar of light, [almost] exactly over my head.......

Bares and Broncos

On Saturday, May 8th, I took the girls to the rodeo. As you know, saying that Joanna adores horses is the understatement of the century. Joanna sprung from the womb loving the majestic animal. For her 3rd birthday, what did we do? Took her and her friends to see some ponies. For her 4th birthday, what did we do? Took her out to Dr. Dave's ranch to ride a horse.
Now what did Ms. Horse Lover do the entire evening at the rodeo??? See below.

That's right. Plugged her ears!!! Oh, she loved being there and watching the "bucking horses" but apparently the noise was too loud for her liking.

For some reason I didn't get any pictures of the broncos.
Here's my favorite event--barrel racing.

Jaclyn: I can say cheese and eat my m&ms at the same time!

Not sure what was going here.

Mt. Never-Rest

Houston, we have a problem.

This just in...

A seemingly innocuous hill of whites and colors which appeared in the Ramsey's master bedroom six days ago has now expanded to ominous proportions, slowly taking over the bed, spilling over onto the floor, and burying the dwelling's inhabitants there within.

This ever-growing mass of what has come to be known to the Ramsey household's matriarch and sole laundry-doer, as "Mt. Never-rest", has, in essence, taken on human characteristics.
Witnesses claim that the mountain's sinister and menacing voice will frequently cry out in victory as another square foot of the bedroom is buried. Witnesses also assert that they have heard the matriarch talking to the mountain, plea-bargaining with it that she will promise to always stain treat if the clothes will promise to fold themselves.

An aerial shot of Mt. Never-rest.
(I love how a pair of panties make up the mountain's peak. Haha! Panties Peak.)

This mountain may not size up to Washington's Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, or even to what's left of Mt. St. Helen's, but as God as my witness, Mt. Never-rest is far more difficult to conquer!!

Unlike mountains of the earthen sort, this textile-made mountain is movable without faith. Every day when said matriarch wakes up, she promises herself that today will be the day that she conquers Mt. Never-rest, vowing to never let it reach such mammoth proportions ever again.
Alas, she reaches her day's end, only to admit her defeat. In her exhausted, semi-conscious head and by the power of Mother Earth she commands Mt. Never-rest to move from atop her bed to the floor below. And in one fell swoop of her floppy arm, the mountain is laid to rest on the side of the bed....for the sixth straight night in a row.

What role, if any, does the patriarch of the household play in defeating Mt. Never-rest, you might ask? Why doesn't he just use his priesthood powers to command the elements to fold and sort themselves? I have come to accept the fact that even the priesthood of God is not strong enough to make the laundry clean and fold itself. ;-)
Hmmm, or maybe it's the holder of that priesthood?? He might have the faith, but as we learn from scripture, ladies. Faith without works is dead.

Hilary Weeks says/sings it so perfectly.

belated birthday blog shout out

Since both Josh and I are Irish, we love the fact that his birthday is March 17. Pretty much every birthday he's ever celebrated in his 31 years of life has involved lots of shamrock-shaped cakes, Leprechaun-adorned birthday cards, and green decor.

Irish eyes are smiling!

For his birthday this year I made homemade strawberry lemonade cupcakes made with pureed strawberries, fresh lemon zest and coconut milk. They were so delicious, I'd be willing to make them again for my own birthday cake this year!

Let's everyone give a holla to my favorite St. Patrick's Day birthday boy!!

Joanna's prince charming

As an afterthought to Lauren's wedding, I thought I'd add this little gem--Joanna gazing into the soulful eyes of her first cousin, Isaiah!

All evening Joanna chased him around, calling him her 'prince charming' and insisted that he dance with her at 'the ball'. We don't condone inbreeding in our family, so as long as Joanna's little crush doesn't last for 20 more years, we'll be ok. ;-)

She came up to me and coyly asked me, "mom, I want to dance with my prince!" So I told her to be brave and ask Isaiah all by herself. She did, and his gentlemanly 7 year old response was, "It would be my pleasure, Joanna." hehehehehe And with that Isaiah took her out to the dance floor, and well, you can see what happened next.

Can you see the wonderment on Joanna's face?!
I'm sure she was envisioning herself as Cinderella in that moment.

So sweet!!! A little princess' wish come true; even if it was realized Ozark style. ;-)

March weddings

Last month was a notable one for the Ramsey clan. We had two weddings!! On March 6th, Josh's grandma Ramsey got remarried to a great guy named Leon for time in the Twin Falls temple. (Grandma Carol's husband, David, of 51 years passed away in 2006.)

I feel like an r-tard because I forgot to take pictures of grandma and Leon that day. I'll point them out in pictures below. They looked so happy together. I was taken aback at how peaceful and collected Carol looked after they came out of the sealing room.

Attending a wedding for older adults was a reflective experience. As I reminisced about my wedding, I remember worrying about the stupidest stuff, like having the perfect hair, an acne breakout, and fitting into my wedding dress. (Josh and I had such a short engagement--6 weeks--that there was no time for fittings or alterations.)

Seeing the serenity on Carol's face helped me to realize that it often takes years of experience and opportunities to gain wisdom to make us learn what's truly important in this life. It's not about having the picture perfect wedding. It's not about looking like a cover girl for a bridal mag. What matters most are the eternal bonds we form in this life that can carry with us on to the next. As the Grail Knight from Indiana Jones says, we must "choose wisely".

====================================================================

A week later, on March 13th, Josh's youngest sibling, Lauren, got married. Lauren and Brad made it official by having a gorgeous wedding and reception in Stansbury Park, Utah. About a year ago, Lauren's boss played 'yenta' and hooked the two up. (Her husband works with Brad in the same Marine unit.) I remember visiting around the time that they'd started dating and it was obvious that they were crazy about each other.

Lauren and Bradley Eisenhut

I love this one of Lauren with her bridesmaids because Joanna popped into the shot!

Sweet Jaclyn

Lauren with her daddy (my father in law)

One thing that made Lauren's wedding even sweeter was that
Jesse (Megan's husband) officiated the wedding ceremony.

Are you humming the wedding recessional song in your head right now like I am??

I wanted to throw this one in because I think that my mother in law looks HOT in that dress!!

I hope they frame this one and hang it somewhere in their first house. It makes me smile. ;-)

Father-Daughter dance

The wedding party! Did I mention that Megan (my sister in law on the far left) made our dresses?! I know. Amazing.

Okay. Here's most of the Ramsey clan + Brad's immediate family that were there.
The other newlyweds, grandma Carol and Leon, are the 4th and 5th people from the right.

Here's some of the children there that night. Check out my nephew, Isaiah (center, wearing a white shirt). He looks like a baller!! ;-)

The photographer captured this sweet shot of my baby!! What a stud!!!

Many congratulations to Lauren and Brad, and to Carol and Leon. We love you all so much!!! Welcome to the family Brad and Leon!!
